Serfom is the social status of the lowest members of a medieval society. Since they have no wealth other than their own labour, serfs are obligated to work on the lands of their lord, providing him with a share of their produce in return for military protection and a measure of justice. Serfs are among the most basic infantry units: their combat potential against anything other than other serfs is minimal, but their real strength lies in their ability to collect resources as part of an army on the march.
